In Mexico, the industrial sector leads energy consumption, accounting for over 26% of the national total, with nearly 1,500 petajoules consumed in 2022. The residential industry follows, consuming approximately 250 petajoules in the same period. In other words, all Mexican households consume barely 65% of what industries use in the country.
Energy demand is increasing, especially in sectors such as the automotive industry. It has significantly increased its energy consumption in the last decade due to its accelerated development and operations growth in our territory. As a result, energy tariffs from official sources surged by more than 15% between 2016 and 2017 alone.

However, although energy demand may seem enormous, the truth is that Mexico not only has a generation capacity of 160% of its consumption, but also, according to a report by the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory), the potential for electricity generation from renewable sources in the country is immense, estimated at 28,590 GW, that is, hundreds of times more than the current demand.
